I liked this app at first but now everytime you try to read one story, it jumps all over the place and when you get back to original page, the story is gone. If you do get a chance to read something, ads pop up constantly in the way and you try to x out and it takes you to the ad page. I am so frustrated with this app I am about to uninstall it. Fix your app!
I am frustrated with two things in the Newsbreak app. First, the app doesn't have the capability to view articles on the web, unlike other news apps such as Google News and Flipboard. Second, I am concerned about the continued display of video ads, such as Temu ads and ads from other entities. I have repeatedly marked these ads as "inappropriate" through the feedback function, but they continue to appear. This is frustrating and disruptive, and it makes me less likely to use the Newsbreak app!
Do not download unless you love tons of ads popping up so fast you can't even get close to reading ANY article on there. So full of adware it's pathetic! It used to be great, now it's went downhill so bad. I would not recommend it to anyone anymore, and I'm deleting mine. It's just not worth the hassle. You spend more time trying to beat out all the adware just to read a few words that it's REALLY not worth the trouble!
I had this app for several years and loved it. Then they changed the privacy policy and started sharing my personal information, device information, location information and ID's to 3rd parties. I deleted the app immediately. My information shouldn't be allowed to be shared unless I want it to be! There's enough problems with scammers in the world and you want to add to it.
Decent news app that allows readers chat about the article, which is great. The reason I give 1 star is because it is absolutely riddled with aggressively persistent ads. I can see myself deleting the app sooner rather than later because having to chase an 'x' that's crazy small or hidden, while I'm trying to read, is less than enjoyable & don't forget the lovely ads that just pop up full screen & take over the content. The ads alone makes for a garbage fire of a read.
It is nice to read local news, but headlines are repeatedly filled with click bait statements that aren't even true. The ads are also intrusive in that my phone cannot easily close the app once an ad begins unless I force close the app. I don't want to be stuck on an ad when I just read a few sentences of an article and am trying to back out of the app.
Sort of local... mostly national. Not really as described, though I could make it more local. It asks for login right away. It's like a weird mix of Facebook and Instagram under news stories. It prompts to share your life. A lot of scope creep here. Some things are useful. I'd rather just check local news with sites I already know.
EDIT: Thanks for listening.....this is not an issue anymore. 👍 It is very irritating that random audio starts playing and you can't tell where it's coming from. You just have to close the app and start over again. You fixed it and I was ready to give you five stars, and then the latest update it does it every time you open it. You can't close it and reopen it it just keeps on happening. It's worse!!!
More ads than news. Plus, once I fell asleep while reading an article and since there was an ad on the screen (that popped up after I fallen asleep) and my phone's 5 min timer of inactivity did not turn off as it thought I was watching 2 hours of ads. So my phone stayed on for 2 hours while I dozed off, draining my battery. How dumb.
Everything is bad news, click bait. Too busy loading ads to actually read the news article. You scroll down BAM ads, click on show full article BAM more ads, followed by..... you guessed it. More ads. Then there's 1 sentence of the article then more and more ads, 2 sentences of the article then ad after ad after ad. You also don't know where the article ends and you see stacks of ads.
For about 2 almost 3 months I kept fighting with this app trying to get it to stop showing me certain things by disliking it trying to tell it I wasn't interested in certain topics. Hoping that the algorithm would finally understand and it never did. It just kept showing me the things I did not want to see before I finally deleted it, not to mention it also kept sending notifications way more frequently than I had it set for
The ads in this app are the worst of any other app I've ever used. There are a lot of ads that will pop up when you open an article to the point that it will not let you read the article without accepting whatever information they are trying to shove at you. Most articles only have about 10% content, leaving you to scroll through the 90% of ads just to be able to read the entire article. I'm done with this app.
NewsBreak is one of the news sources I really enjoy. The content is fantastic, and the design is lovely. I especially like the clips & videos feature. However, it would be even better if the support was quicker in responding. It would be great to have an edit menu for fixing any mistakes or making changes to posts. An edit feature would be such a helpful addition. Keep updating and improving for better design improvements...
I like the app as an alternative to Reddit for local news and the crime map is a nice feature as well. The breaking news notification is absolutely horrendous though. My final straw was "BREAKING NEWS: Ricki Lake was once homeless when she was 20..." With everything going on, in what world is that breaking news worthy? -2 stars because the notifications are outlandish, other than that, it's pretty good!
So Close. Love the UI and social element. NB does a great job at striking a balance between local, national, and international news. My ONLY complaints are 1) Many external news links lead to paywall sources or are clickbate 2) All notifs off and yet NB still emails me headliners 3) The grotesque ads all throughout the app. news sites are infected w/chumbox ads that appear below the story. But these gross images are all throughout the articles; making for an UNPLEASANT user experience.
This app has SO MANY ADS! This app also gives you notifications that will leave your phone on until you dismiss them. I was out and had a full battery. I checked my phone and it was down to 15 percent because of a notification that left my phone on. If I had an emergency or something, I wouldn't have been able to call anyone because of the stupid feature. This app does not care about your safety.
While I have been provided useful articles in the past that were helpful, I agree with others that there are too many ads. And, most recently, every article I pull up starts an audible ad in the background that is unrelated to anything in the article I'm viewing - the end result is that I cannot turn the audio off or stop it from playing. I'm uninterested in having to hear the same ad slogan on every article so I'm done with this app. Uninstalling.
Why are there so many ads? When I'm trying to read an article but 4 ads pop up all over the page and I can only see two sentences between all the ads. It's ridiculous! Why are 5 ads Needed on one page? How about an ad or two a page? One at the top, one at the bottom, that way people can still read the article. Why do you feel the need to have one ad on the top, 2 on the bottom, one on the right and left side of the screen, and then the random one that just pops up right in the middle
I've had this app for a long time but I'm probably going to uninstall it because it's getting impossible to read the articles because of advertising popping up on top and bottom of the screen and only having a small viewing area in the middle of screen to read it, or it'll cover the entire screen and you can't finish reading the article at all,
When I first got the app, it was decent. Now it is a flood of ads, I literally can't read any of the articles I pull because the entire screen is an ad, or it is multiple small ads that move on center when you scroll. I am uninstalling the app immediately after leaving this review. Don't waste your time!
